ACCI e-Tool

The ACCI e-Tool is a free, easy to use tool, which guides you to develop a workforce development plan. It is a service provided to the employer community in recognition of the value of workforce development in improving productivity and the increasing request for a workforce development plan to accompany funding requests. The e-Tool has been developed through research and consultation with employers.

What is Workforce Development?

Workforce development is a term that can be used at a macro or economy-wide level, as well as at an enterprise level. At the macro level, workforce development involves planning for the needs of the economy and in each industry sector by forecasting an planning for skills and labour needs. It is often said that it is about ensuring the right skills are in the right place at the right time. Workforce development encompasses both the quantity of labour needed as well as the quality. It also applies to enterprises that undertake a holistic planning approach to their workforce needs including attracting suitable qualified staff, developing existing staff, offering career pathways, retaining key staff and planning for known future needs by taking into account turnover rates and predicted retirement. It replaces a just-in-time approach to recruiting staff or dealing with each of the above issues in isolation from one another and is a more cost-effective approach to your business in the long run.

Benefits to your business of having a workforce development plan

  • Your business goals can be achieved because the right person is in the job to do the work,
  • Easier to communicate your business objectives to clients, partners, employees, and financial institutions
  • Increased productivity because company’s production needs are better matched with employees’ skills
  • Reduced costs through reduced turnover of staff and associated expenses of replacing staff such as advertising and on-costs
  • More scope for innovation in your company because staff have the right level of skills to identify where improvements can be made
  • You become an employer of choice
